Temples play epic show at sold out 7th Street Entry
British psychedelic rock band Temples blasted the intimate confines of 7th Street Entry with an epic set on Saturday, February 2, 2020. On tour to support their 2019 release, Hot Motion on ATO Records, the band from Kettering, Northamptonshire sold out a majority of their US tour including their stop at Minneapolis. After seeing Temples play the much larger First Avenue in 2015, it was a real treat to experience their live sound in a tiny club.
Temples started the show with “The Howl” from Hot Motion. The marching drums and crunchy guitar sound set the stage for a groovy head-bopping performance. The keyboard-driven single “Certainty” from their sophomore album Volcano sounded fantastic and spacey. With the focused crowd clapping along, “A Question Isn’t Answered” from Temples’ incredible debut Sun Structures was played next. The swinging thunderous drums had heads nodding along, and the energy from then on only went up.
Standing in front of bassist Tom Warmsley, my bones rattled as sonic sounds blasted out from the tiny stage. “Hot Motion” in the middle of the set was a huge highlight. Singer and guitarist James Bagshaw sounded great, and the chorus had everyone in the crowd dancing. “Shelter Song” is one of Temples’ best songs and also felt incredible up close.
The night ended with a jammed out version of “Mesmerise” from their debut album Sun Structures. It was a fine finale to an epic show that I won’t soon forget. I’ve been a big fan of Temples since their debut album was released, and seeing them play 7th Street Entry is something I will forever be grateful for. Check this band out if you haven’t already.
Art D’Ecco opened the show with a captivating set as well. The Canadian glam-rocker sounded awesome with his infusion of rock, post-punk, and classical stylings. His 2018 album “Trespasser” is definitely worth checking out. Art D’Ecco made a lot of new fans at 7th Street Entry on this night.
