Thomas Gardell

Hood and the Lyre at Acadia Cafe

Minneapolis singer-songwriter Thomas Gardell is Hood and the Lyre. Joined on stage by bassist Matt McClung, Gardell put on a stirring hour long set at Acadia Cafe on the West Bank on Thursday, January 9, with a singing approach very similar to that of Conor Oberst. In the middle of the set, the lovely Molly Murphy accompanied Gardell and sang backup for covers of Ryan Adams’ “Oh My Sweet Carolina”, Bright Eyes’ “Landlocked Blues”, and a gorgeous version of “9 Crimes” by Damien Rice. It was quite a nice evening of local music.
