Atmosphere Palace Theatre St. Paul

Atmosphere returns home and sells out two nights at Palace Theatre

On the heals of the release of their seventh album, Mi Vida Local, local hip hop sensations Atmosphere filled the Palace Theatre in St. Paul on two consecutive nights. Night two was my first time seeing the band, and I was surprisingly very impressed with most of the performance. Opener deM atlaS was incredible too. Incorporating James Brown-esque spins and jumps with a great voice, this young hip hop artist is worthy of the buzz surrounding him.

By the time Atmosphere took the heavily backlit stage, the sold out crowd was stirring with anticipation. Punks, metal heads, and average Joes filled the crowd, and once the music got started, everyone was grooving together. Playing for nearly two hours, Atmosphere jumped back and forth through their deep catalog and the show started out really hot before slowing down a little late in the set.

Atmosphere plays a lot of show a year and singer Slug may be the best segue-banter man I’ve ever seen. From one song to another, he set up the next song with goofy comedic banter and it created a flow that kept the crowd’s attention. His voice also held strong above the heavy beats of producer / dj Ant. In the end, Atmosphere at the Palace Theatre in St. Paul was an incredible amount of fun and I’m really glad I finally caught them live.
