Metric at State Theatre in Minneapolis

Metric and Minneapolis have a long history, and singer Emily Haines warmly declared to the near capacity crowd at the State Theatre how nice it felt to be there. She and her electro-rock band Metric played an upbeat and extremely enjoyable show that didn’t slow down until it was over. Even the encore break wasted no time, counting down from two minutes on large light boxes that backed the beautiful stage of the State.

Haines has already proven herself to be a great lead, and she bounced over the stage all night, her voice never wavering, in what looked like a good aerobic exercise routine. Her band of ten years never wavered either, providing a solid rhythm lead by bassist Joshua Winstead and drummer Joules Scott-Key — who most of the night was immersed in a cloud of smoke at the back center of the stage. It was a fantastic performance, by a fantastic band, and truly a pleasure to shoot. Opening the show was fellow Canadian band, Half Moon Run. Their extremely mellow set and vocal harmonies at times reminded me of Fleet Foxes, and contrasted the driving beat of Metric drastically. Overall, this night was was über FUN!
