Glasvegas at 7th Street Entry

Scottish band Glasvegas charms The Entry in Minneapolis

“Thank you for coming to see the band. We came all the way from fuckin’ Glasgow.” Singer James Allan exclaimed early in the evening as his band played through a rocking, and at times, heartfelt set. The four-piece hit the near capacity crowd at the tiny 7th Street Entry with a bang, heavy on tunes from their 2013 release Later…When The TV Turns To Static. Some of the biggest crowd movers of the night were their older songs however, including “Geraldine” and “Go Square Go” from their 2008 self-titled debut record.

“Ice Cream Van” towards the end of the set was gorgeously mellow, as was the fan requested “A Snowflake Fell (and It Felt Like a Kiss)” from their 2008 Christmas EP with the same name. That song was startling and beautiful, inducing goosebumps as singer James Allan and guitarist Rab Allan quietly played as the drummer and bassist waited in back.

From the beginning, the band interacted with the crowd between songs telling tales of their previous Minneapolis experiences. It may have been freezing outside, but it was warm and comfortable inside The Entry. To see this fantastic Scottish rock band at that tiny venue was truly a treat. It felt wonderful being that close to the music.

New Los Angeles band The Ceremonies opened with a short set that sounded good, when they weren’t having microphone technical difficulties. Photos taken for Reviler, check it out.
