Cut Copy at First Avenue

Cut Copy beats Free Your Mind into Minneapolis

Australian electronic synth-pop band, Cut Copy, pounded Minneapolis with an audacious performance to a comfortably full First Avenue that had nearly everyone in the mainroom dancing. On tour to support the band’s 2013 release, Free Your Mind, the four-piece hit hard from the start with a pummeling bass that was infectious, and synth lines that sometimes made it feel like I was in a 80s Euro new wave club. Although the mainroom wasn’t sold out, the floor was packed tight and it’s been a while since I’ve seen an entire crowd groove like that at First Avenue. Cut Copy at First Avenue was tons of fun. And there were strobes. Oh were there strobes.

Los Angeles duo Classixx opened, also playing a wonderful driving set that was enhanced by a large CRT screen that showed effects and video clips.

Melbourne DJ Nile Delta played in between sets.
