Tycho finishes Infinite Health tour with dreamy show at First Avenue
Tycho wrapped up their 2024 US tour with a stop at First Avenue in Minneapolis. On tour to support the seventh full-length release, Infinite Health that came out in August, Scott Hansen and his bandmates played a dreamy and nostalgic show. Hansen’s parents, godfather, and grandfather were seated at a table on the edge of the balcony, and it was clear early that Hansen was proud of where he came from and talked several times about how his music was heavily influenced by his family and the central California environment he grew up in.
Adding to the familial feel of the show, in the middle of the set a female fan fainted and First Avenue’s staff attended to her for several minutes while Hansen stopped the show and asked everyone to relax and make room. The show continued on and I felt like I was floating on a dreamy cloud. Classics songs like “A Walk” and “Awake” were moving, but the edgier songs of Infinite Health hit the hardest. I really like “Consciousness Felt” and “Phantom” from the new record. Although Tycho’s set opening for Interpol at the Palace Theatre in St. Paul was also great, it’s hard to think of a better venue than First Avenue to see the band. It was a great night of head-bopping chillwave music in Minneapolis.
