The Tallest Man on Earth at First Avenue
The Tallest Man on Earth is at home in Minneapolis
So it turns out The Tallest Man on Earth isn’t so tall after all, but Kristian Matsson can write a great song and he is probably still better at basketball than me. The Swedish singer-songwriter treated a near capacity and very gracious crowd at First Avenue with an fantastic show on Saturday, August 29.
The Tallest Man on Earth weaved in and out of more upbeat songs like the wonderful Phosphorescent-esque single “Sagres” from the 2015 release Dark Bird is Home, and ” “1904” from the 2012 album There’s No Leaving Now — to more stripped down solo acoustic songs like “Love is All“. The solo songs sounded beautiful, and the attentive crowd at First Avenue should be commended as well, as the room stayed quiet enough to give the music space to flow through.
Opening the night was the young singer-songwriter Aly Spaltro who performs as Lady Lamb. She left a lot of attendees floored with her meandering poetic tunes. This entire show was excellent.
