Tennis at Fine Line Music Cafe

Tennis, the indie-pop band from Denver, CO made up of husband and wife duo Alaina Moore and Patrick Riley, made a tour stop at Fine Line Music Cafe in Minneapolis on Tuesday, October 7. Supporting Tennis was Portland, Oregon indie rock band Pure Bathing Culture.

Even with a meager turnout, Pure Bathing Culture especially sounded great. Singer Sarah Versprille and guitarist Daniel Hindman, both former members of the band Vetiver, had obvious chemistry and stage experience together, which allowed the songs to flow naturally. Hindman showed prowess with some very nice guitar work.

Tennis was more upbeat and poppy, but I didn’t get a lot of feeling from their music. Perhaps it was the small turnout, or the fact the tiny-framed Moore was getting over an illness that caused the band to cancel their in-store performance at Electric Fetus earlier in the day. Regardless, their performance lacked energy and was underwhelming.
