Sylvan Esso rocks sold out Surly Brewing Festival Field
Sylvan Esso, the electro-pop duo from North Carolina has made a name for themselves since their debut album release in 2014. With help from 89.3 The Current, the band has held a large following in the Twin Cities since their inception, selling out First Avenue multiple times. So it was not really a surprise that Sylvan Esso had no problem selling out the much larger 5500 capacity Surly Brewing Festival Field on Friday, July 20, 2018.
It was a cool and overcast summer evening in Minneapolis but Sylvan Esso brought some heat. Singer Amelia Meath’s rhythmic voice added so much the music, and she held nothing back as the sold out crowd jammed along for an hour and a half. The biggest highlight of the night was “H.S.K.T” from their self-titled debut played late in the set. With producer Nick Sanborn laying down the beat, it thumped super hard making it impossible not to groove along. “Die Young” also sounded great, as did the upbeat single “Radio” from their 2017 sophomore album What Now.
Sylvan Esso played a beautiful show at Surly Brewing Festival Field and I hope it’s not long before they return to the Twin Cities. With their fervent fanbase, I’m sure they’ll be back soon enough.
