Sigur Rós at Roy Wilkins in St. Paul
Sigur Rós plays a beautiful concert in St. Paul
Icelandic ambient rock band Sigur Rós, made a stop at Roy Wilkins Auditorium in St. Paul, MN on the US leg of their international tour in support of their upcoming release Kveikur. Although there are few venues in the Twin Cities that could be more cold and unwelcoming than the block lined walls of Roy Wilkins Auditorium, Sigur Rós put on a splendid performance that seemed to warm the hearts of most concert goers who stared in awe with beautiful sounds emanating the air from the stage.
The band played the first three songs behind a white opaque curtain before finally letting it drop. Afterwards, the lighting and random videos that splashed against the backdrop added greatly to the show. Sigur Rós’ music is deep and transcendent, and at times cold and desolate like the geography of their native country. In the end it is just a beautiful experience to stand in front of them and let it take over. It was so nice to finally see them perform.
Oneohtrix Point Never, the stage name of experimental Brooklyn, NY based musician Daniel Lopatin opened the show with a soft electro sounding set.
