San Cisco at Triple Rock Social Club
San Cisco fills Triple Rock with sunshine
Australian indie-popsters, San Cisco, filled Triple Rock Social Club in Minneapolis with a sunny summer vibe, and a lot of college sophomores. Led by Jordi Davieson, who has since outgrown the baby-face he had on the band’s 2012 breakthrough video “Awkward“, the band played a short and tight set of originals that would have served as nice background music for a day at the beach. All night drummer Scarlett Stevens played impressively, driving the show with solid bass and tom-accented rhythms.
Before playing “Awkward” a few songs in, Davieson credited local radio station “Current FM” for being the first station in the country to pick it up which greatly helped the band gain popularity in the US. “Minneapolis is always a place we go, and people show up,” he said with his western Australian accent and a smile.
After a while the summery grooves wore a bit thin, but the standout song of the night was the darker and aptly titled tune “Snow” from their brand new 2015 lp Gracetown. That song showed more mature writing with nice funky guitars.
San Cisco is a good live band, and after nearly filling the Triple Rock to capacity, I’d be surprised if their next Minneapolis stop wasn’t at First Avenue. Brooklyn band MOTHXR opened the show.
