JVP Ensemble at Cedar Cultural Center
JVP Ensemble puts on a rhythmic showcase at The Cedar
JVP Ensemble, a 10-piece percussion group conducted by Joey Van Phillips, played their first gig on Wednesday, January 28 at The Cedar Cultural Center in Minneapolis. The show was made possible by a grant Van Phillips received from the 416 Club Commissions through the Jerome Foundation. The sheer amount of local talent on stage was almost overwhelming, with artists like Dosh, JT Bates, Aby Wolf, Dessa, Sims and others, all lending a hand to Van Phillips’ new original hip-hop scores. The rhythmically driving hour long set of music was an absolute delight to witness. The songs sung by Aby Wolf & Omaur Bliss, Amy Hager & Jacob Mullis of Fort Wilson Riot, and Doomtree rapper Sims, packed the most power.
Bravo Joey Van Phillips, keep this ensemble together!
