Drive-By Truckers acoustic at First Avenue
Drive-By Truckers bring Dirt Underneath tour to First Avenue
Drive-By Truckers returned to First Avenue, this time leaving their Les Paul and Fender Telecaster guitars behind in favor of their acoustics. For a band whose extensive song catalog is a very much a collection of stories, sitting down and playing acoustic bodes well for the audience. Guitarists and songwriters Patterson Hood and Mike Cooley did not disappoint the near capacity crowd at First Avenue, although at times the story telling before a song drew out longer than it need to. The stripped down versions of “Heathens” and the Cooley classic “Women Without Whisky” sounded wonderful and really stood out to me on this night.
