Django Django brings Marble Skies to Fine Line Music Cafe
British art rock band Django Django returned to Minneapolis once again — this time on tour to support their third album Marble Skies that was released on January 26, 2018. After a meager crowd at First Avenue the last time they were in town, the band played the smaller Fine Line Music Cafe on a rainy and cold Thursday night. Once again the show didn’t sell out, but this time the band was on fire from the start.
The title track from Marble Skies sounded excellent live and got the cool crowd warmed up in a hurry. After that, song after song was upbeat and the entire floor was dancing along with people draped along the balcony perimeter watching along with smiles. The electro percussion-heavy grooves were contagious and it was hard not to move.
I still think their debut self-titled album that was released in 2012 is their best. But on this night, songs from their sophomore album Born Under Saturn and their new release sounded the best. “Tic Tac Toe” was another huge highlight of the night. Check out Django Django, they are a very talented and underrated band that rocks.
Opening the night was The Shacks, an experimental indie rock band from New York City that combined a 70s funk feel with whispered lyrics by singer Shannon Wise. They had a unique and charming sound, and I’d love to see them again.
