The Black Angels bring Death Song to life at First Avenue
Austin, TX based psychedelic rock band The Black Angels brought songs from their stellar 2017 release Death Song to First Avenue in Minneapolis on Friday, May 12, 2017. Accompanied by a kaleidoscopic light show and heavy buzzing guitars, The Black Angels hammered out a beautifully dark set to a nearly full First Avenue.
Death Song is the band’s best album yet, with tracks “Currency”, “I’d Kill for Her”, and “Life Song” really standing out live. Played just before the encore break, an extended “Life Song” was especially great. Singer Alex Maas owned it, enthralling the crowd into a transfixed trance. It was absolutely awesome with experience.
A Place to Bury Strangers opened the show with an amazing set as well. The New York noise rockers had the strobes on high, driving home a high energy bass line heavy set that was incomparably unique. Check out this video for “We’ve Come So Far“. I hope they return to Minneapolis soon.
